iPhone 3.0 firmware Beta 4 and above...
Well through some trials and more error codes than I have seen in Windows 7 through the first two months of using the OS, I found that it is required by Apple that you install iTune 8.2 beta on your machine as well.
I am not sure what this is going to do to any mainstream users iTunes library, but it should pull through just fine. If you are not a developer this is not available to you. I am thinking they threw this little snippet into the mix to destroy the dreams of all non-developers who download the IPSW from piratebay.
Today I will be attempting to install the Beta 5 software. Should offer a bit more stability, but, I have noticed that with each beta update, more and more of my Apps are beginning to crash.
Makes me wonder if there is documentation on what the upkeep on these applications need to be in order to post them in the App Store. Well, off to Beta 5, I will post if I come across one of the many error codes that do not have definitions at apple.com/support. Ha, if that site comes up to begin with, Apple must have some pretty shotty network techs working for them, every time a beta is released, I get many many page cannot be found errors. Geez, I thought these bandwidth problems were experiences left to the 90's.
